About Shari Levine, Ph.D.
My Approach
My approach is grounded in the belief that our imperfections are what connect us; they are the common thread we share as human beings. I work with my clients to cultivate self-compassion because I believe it’s the foundation for psychological growth.
I approach my work through a strengths-based lens, grounded in the belief that each person already holds the inner resources needed to face life’s challenges. Together, we’ll uncover your unique gifts and help you reconnect with what matters to you most.
Focused Psychotherapy
I offer focused psychotherapy: an intentional, time-sensitive approach centered on specific concerns or life transitions. This model allows us to concentrate where it’s most needed, helping you move forward with clarity and purpose.
(You can learn more about my approach to focused psychotherapy on the next page.) My work is meaning-centered, grounded in Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy, and integrates evidence-based practices including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), self-compassion, and mindfulness.
Grief, End-of-Life, and Transitions
Grief, end-of-life experiences, and life transitions are a central focus of my practice. I specialize in supporting individuals through the many forms of loss—whether it's the death of a loved one or major life changes such as the end of a relationship, shifts in health, retirement, parenting milestones, or an empty nest. The end of life, in particular, brings a unique kind of grief for both the person facing it and those they leave behind.
Grief doesn’t follow a set timeline; it comes in waves and often feels like something we carry for a while. In my work, I help clients make space for grief and navigate it with compassion. Together, we can find new meaning and move forward in a way that honors both what’s been lost and what lies ahead.

Focused Psychotherapy
I provide individual psychotherapy to adults ages 25 and older. I am licensed to see clients in New Jersey and New York, and I work exclusively through a secure telehealth platform.
What You Can Expect from Focused Psychotherapy
Focused psychotherapy is a structured, time-sensitive approach tailored to help you work through specific concerns with clarity and purpose.
We’ll begin with a free 15-minute phone consultation to explore what you're looking for in therapy and determine whether we’re a good fit to work together.
If we decide to work together, our sessions will focus on:
-
Clarifying What Matters to You
We'll begin by identifying what gives your life meaning and exploring the emotional, behavioral or relational patterns that may be getting in the way. -
Identifying the Core Concern
Together, we'll pinpoint the specific issues you'd like to address - whether it's anxiety, grief, stress, relationship difficulties, or another area. -
Setting Meaningful, Actionable Goals
We'll translate your values and concerns into clear goals that guide our sessions. -
Using Targeted, Evidence-Based Strategies
Drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and self-compassion practices, we’ll apply focused tools designed to support change. -
Monitoring Progress Together
Throughout our work, we’ll make adjustments as needed to ensure that therapy remains aligned with your goals and responsive to your needs.
The length of therapy depends on your goals and progress. My work is designed to create meaningful change in a focused timeframe - therapy doesn’t have to be long to be impactful. When appropriate, I also offer longer-term support.

Specializing in Targeted Therapy for:

Relationship & Social Pressures: Including familial conflict, dating challenges, and workplace stress.
Illness & Caregiver Burnout: Providing support for those managing health challenges.
Emotional & Mental Health: Including anxiety, depression, and anger management.
Self-Worth & Confidence: Helping individuals improve self-esteem and personal growth.
Insurance & Fees
Insurance:
-
I do not work directly with insurance companies, so I would be considered an "out-of-network" provider for your insurance plan.
-
"Out-of-network" means that the client pays the psychologist at the time of service and then seeks reimbursement by the insurance company.
-
I'm happy to provide you with the necessary paperwork to submit to your insurance company. Depending on your plan, you might receive reimbursement—typically a percentage of the fee you paid.
-
I encourage you to contact your insurance provider in advance to verify the extent of your out-of-network mental health benefits (e.g., whether you have an annual deductible, the number of sessions covered per year, or if you require pre-authorization before seeing a psychologist).
Fees:
-
Please call or email to inquire about fees.
-
I accept payment by credit card at the time of session.
-
There is a 24-hour cancellation notice or the full fee is charged.
